AKD serves Maui County's neediest children by granting child-directed dreams, one child at a time. Dreams remind children in crisis that they are special and loved and have the ability and the right to dream. AKD's dreams are child-directed to empower the child and ensure that the child is the center of attention for that day.

Formed in 1990, AKD operates exclusively in Maui County. AKD provides dreams to children in crisis of any nature, whether abuse, neglect, homelessness, major medical problems, major personal loss, psychological concerns, etc.

AKD coordinates its dream services with other social service and family agencies. Partners refer children in crisis, consistent with AKD's guidelines:
